Exercising is one of the best things you can do for your health. Exercise is good for your heart, your mind, and is great for lowering blood sugar.

  • Improves lipid levels (blood fats)

  • Promotes weight loss

  • Lowers risk for heart disease

  • Helps your body use insulin better

  • May reduce the amount of insulin or diabetes pills you are taking

Exercise is great but it must it is important to exercise safely. Talk to your doctor before starting a new exercise program. There are some exercises that may not be safe for you.

 

EXTRA EXERCISE PRECAUTIONS:

  • Wear Diabetes Identification

  • Carry fast-acting carbohydrate (such as glucose tablets or hard candy)

  • Don’t exercise if you are not feeling well

  • Wear good shoes  

  • Drink plenty of water

 Work up to getting at least 30 minutes of exercise, most days of the week. The 30 minutes can be all at one time or spread out throughout the day. Remember, anything that gets your heart rate up and your muscles moving can count as exercise.
