Springfield, MO – Today U.S. Senator Kit Bond joined Jordan Valley Community Health Center Board of Directors and staff, Missouri Senator Jack Goodman, Representative Sara Lampe, and Claudia Gibson of the National Association of Community Health Centers for a special ribbon cutting and dedication at Jordan Valley Community Health Center. The newly renovated building at 440 East Tampa will house Jordan Valley’s medical facilities and is also the new home of Springfield-Greene County WIC (Women, Infants & Children.) Senator Bond played a critical role in securing federal funds to establish Jordan Valley. He initially worked for two years with community leaders to deliver the first Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Springfield to address the growing health access and disparity issues in Springfield and Greene County.

“Community Health Centers provide patients in need of health care with high quality, cost effective, accessible care,” said Bond. “Health Centers are an indispensable component of the health care safety net in Missouri and throughout the country. I am so pleased to have been a partner in the effort to expand health centers in Missouri.”

The new location of Jordan Valley Community Health Center will offer both adult and pediatric medical services, behavioral health services, pharmacy services, laboratory services, out-patient procedures, x-ray, and patient education. Jordan Valley has created a welcoming and educational setting in the Tampa building, with several areas to help provide resources including an adult learning center with health information, health education staff or patient consultations, children’s learning library and the Women Infants and Children (WIC) program’s central office.

“Our new facility on Tampa will allow us to expand existing services and add crucial new services in an effort to provide a healthcare home for many throughout Southwest Missouri,” stated JVCHC Chief Executive Officer, Brooks Miller. “It is through the provision of this healthcare home, which provides comprehensive convenient care, that we are confident in our ability to improve health outcomes and develop healthy lifestyles.”

The new Jordan Valley Tampa Clinic will be open for patients beginning July 6. The newly renovated 40,000 square feet located on the ground level of the Tampa Clinic includes 50 exam rooms which will replace the current medical clinic on Kearney Street in Springfield. Renovation of the basement level is currently underway and will create an additional 35 exam rooms to allow growth in women’s and children’s services.

Over the last three years, Jordan Valley Community Health Center has served as a healthcare home to more than 35,000 local residents in Southwest Missouri, of which 11,550 have been children. As an FQHC, the grant funding received from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services allows Jordan Valley to serve un-insured and under-insured patients with high quality health care. Support is also received from various organizations such as the Missouri Primary Care Association, The City of Springfield and the Missouri Foundation for Health.

Jordan Valley will continue to serve patients at their medical clinic at 630 W. Kearney through September 2009, at which time all medical patients will transition to the Tampa clnic. Jordan Valley also serves Southwest Missouri at their dental clinic at 630 North Benton, and at their primary care clinic in Marshfield at 1166 Banning Street.
